The Contest consists of 2 phases:

1) Contest Phase: In this phase, eligible applicants can enter for a chance to be randomly selected as 1 of 40 finalists to advance to the Scholarship Phase. The Contest Phase consists of a random draw conducted by the Administrator. Finalists will be selected from amongst all eligible entries (as described in Section 5). The 40 entries randomly selected in the Contest Phase will move on to the Scholarship Phase for judging. There is no monetary or other prize available to be won by finalists in the Contest Phase. Finalists will advance to the Scholarship Phase for a chance to be selected as one of the scholarship prize winners for their region.

2) Scholarship Phase: In this phase, the sponsors’ and administrators’ judging panel will review the finalists’ Contest entries to select 4 scholarship prize winners (as described in Section 5).

There are four themes for the contest/scholarship:

  • Diversity Scholarship

  • Financial Wellness Scholarship

  • Future Women Leaders Scholarship

  • STEM Scholarship

Safe, Caring and Inclusive Schools Graduating Student Leadership Bursary

The Safe, Caring and Inclusive Schools Graduating Student Leadership
Bursary acknowledges the contributions of youth in establishing and
maintaining safe, caring and inclusive schools and communities, and to
promote student awareness of the Safe and Caring Schools Policy (2013).

The goal is to:

  • Recognize the leadership of youth across the province engaging in
    initiatives aimed at building and nurturing safe, caring and inclusive
    school communities.
  • Help students recognize that they can make a difference in the lives of others.
  • Encourage and mobilize students to become involved in future
    initiatives related to safe, caring and inclusive school communities.

Students need to submit an application that includes:

  1. A description of the initiative(s) the student has engaged in, the
    role that the student played in the initiative(s) and how the
    initiative(s) supported a safe, caring and inclusive school community.

  2. Two references, at least one being a school staff member.

Amount: $500

Leah Bailey Powers Memorial Scholarship

This entrance scholarship was created in loving memory of Leah Bailey Powers who passed away in 2009 at the age of nineteen. Leah excelled academically and was an energetic and spirited student leader. As Student Council President of Holy Heart of Mary Regional High, she inspired and motivated her peers to become active in their school community. Leah’s leadership activities continued in her first year at Memorial University of Newfoundland where she became a passionate and
dedicated volunteer to promote social justice with Engineers Without Borders. This scholarship will be valued at a portion of the income on the endowment and will be awarded annually. This scholarship will be given to a student graduating from Holy Heart of Mary Regional High in St. John’s who is entering his/her first year of studies in any discipline at Memorial University of Newfoundland. This scholarship may be held in addition to other scholarships and will be awarded only to applicants who embody the same spirited and enthusiastic leadership qualities that Leah demonstrated in motivating and inspiring
inclusiveness in student and community activities and organizations, as nominated by Holy Heart of Mary Regional High.

Note: To be considered for this scholarship, you must be attending Memorial University in the fall of 2022 and you must have submitted your scholarship profile to your guidance counsellor.

Joyce Family Foundation Bursary – College of the North Atlantic

The Joyce Family Foundation Bursary Program is open to all high school students in all communities in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The bursary program is based on financial need and is open to
any student wanting to pursue a CNA post-secondary education.

Application Deadline: July 29, 2022

  1. Leadership in school activities (1 to max. of 25 points)
  2. Leadership in the community (1 to max. of 25 points)
  3. Academic achievement (1 to max. of 20 points)
  4. Essay (1 to max. of 20 points)
  5. Recognition, awards, honours and scholarships (1 to max. of 10 points)
